I have already learned a very valuable lesson about triathlons even before racing in my first one and that is that the course descriptions are written by compulsive liars.
flat run course = there's a mountain in the middle you have to climb twice because it's out and back
rolling hills bike course = it climbs the same mountain several times

I need to watch for milfoil and that's about it. There's not even any flying elbows at the back of the pack!

i can't even swim laps to get into the deep end.
my argument always being - i'm going from the diving board to the side of the pool. i don't feel the need to swim back and forth 5 times after.
