The main M & F magazine has a (small) section in the back devoted exclusively to the wimmens. They also have a pretty good message board on their web site at:

I guess that explains why I can't find it anymore.

Cancel that contract NOW!
I pay $40/month for a gym membership (it's a 24/7 place) in addition to the free one at school (which is sometimes inconvenient). The free one at school has treadmills, ellipticals and basic Nautilus machines plus free weights. Check into your school's gym. Ours also offers free personal trainers (who are learning it at school).
Personal trainers at the YMCA and the other gyms here range in price from $30-$50 per hour. Unless you are using a PT EVERYDAY at $50/hour, you are NOT getting your $1500 worth.

im paying 34/month for the gym itself. i can use the one at school for "free", its included in my student fees. but its horribly inconvientent and always crowed.
ive seen the PT in the rec center at school and they dont seem like they do that much. but i didnt know the Y might be a solution....

I'll cut to the quick...mileage. That's all you need. Mileage. Six months; 1000 miles. That'll get you in the dress, I guarantee. If you can't run 40-mi/wk, then start 3-mi walks every evening to supplement your running. Crank up the time on the road and not holed up in the gym. There's one thing runners should know like the back of their hand is the scale cooperates when you get the mileage up.

Or she could just walk 20 miles a day carrying a 40 lb pack.

he's right froggie. when my miles hit 30 a week, it becomes very hard to keep weight on for me. but it's gotta be consistently 30 and up to 35 miles a week. seems like alot, and i'm not talking fast miles either. alternate inclined/flat treadmill for some of the miles and that really helps too.
drink lots of water.

1500/month's way too expensive!!
I say drop it and save up that money for something else!
I have a personal trainer myself and he charges $64 per session including tax. He's a runner/triathlete himself, works on his own (not attached to a gym) and most of the exercises are geared towards endurance sport-specific (not for the intention of bulking up) and core conditioning. He also does weight-loss and injury rehab programs... He basically integrates and periodizes the strength program into my running program. The program requires me to hit the gym 2-3X a week, that's it. If you have the self motivation to work hard independently, it's a really effective program and well worth the money. We meet only once at a local gym every 1-2 months to check on progress and go over new exercises. So that's about 32-64 bucks per month.
