One of my Chrsitmas gifts from Miss Steph was a handheld mixer/blender.

While I've been making a breakfast smoothie i decided to make a high protein recovery one for skating nights

so i did this Monday night and Wednesday night and WOW what a difference proper recovery diet makes. so for a quick recovery smoothie

1 cup of frozen mixed berries
1 cup frozen mixed fruit
1 cup a cranberry juice
1 serving of energy powder ( i use the Sustained by Hammergel/E-caps)
1 serving protein powder (once again i use a Hammergel product)
1 tablespoon of honey

before leaving on the run just put all the ingredient minus the honey in a container and store in the fridge. when coming home add the honey and blend the frozen fruit is also the ice so no diluting with ice. with summer coming up this seems like a winner option to me.

Yogurt by itself = Mr. Green
Yogurt in smoothie = puke

the secret ingredient is the honey. it helps take the tang off the berries and it too is a potent anti-oxidant.

my roomate thinks i'm bonkers though. what's he know? dunno

i find post workout smoothies work great for me, too. my current one is:

approx 10 ounces cold water
1 scoop whey protein (vanilla or chocolate)
half a banana
3 strawberries (or a few blueberries)
1 tbsp milled flax seed
a little splenda

i use a blender to mix it up until frothy, works quite well - is low calorie & high protein. also as a change of pace i sometimes skip the berries and add something like cinnamin or "pumpkin pie spice" instead.

i have to have smoothies when i come home from school. i'm always so hungry and nothing fills me up and most snacking food makes me ill. that, and i need the extra protein.

now that more berries are in season -

1/2 litre apple juice
2 scoops GNC Pro RX wildberry stuff
4-5 strawberries
1 banana

sometimes i don't have any fruit and just have the juice and protein. either way, very good. very filling. (i'm actually having one right now as i cool down from my workout) Smile
