so this has happened to me twice, when the pool is very crowded. today i am swimming elbow to elbow with people which does not bother me at all. but then, i see this woman walk in and stand there, in fact i say hi to her on my "turn around" and when i get to the other end of the pool and "turn around" i see her jump in and start swimming right toward me....wtf? is there some rule that you share lines like that, (not lanes, but the imaginary straight line you're swimming on) as in i go shallow to deep and then wait while you do the same and then i go deep to shallow and wait while you do the same...wtf was she thinking? twice this has happened and i'm clueless.
i wasn't stopping so she did and kinda walked sideways across the pool to try to find more space...
what memo did i miss?

She probably didn't know what was going on and didn't realize she should wait until someone quit.

It happens. I had a guy jump in and start swimming with no goggles and couldn't see where he was going. We had to have a chat about lane etiquette.

I've had people ask me to 'split' a lane, but the lane is wide enough anyway, so no biggie. But to split a 'line', that's a whole other story. Never heard of it.

Me too! Someone would be bleeding. Very possibly not accidently either.

I'd have just shat on the line, and let her have it.

I have had so many people disrupt my pool runs. It makes me mad because they just don't care and it's obvious when someone is trainig for something versus just leisurly getting in some movement (i.e. checking my watch, doing intervals, breathing hard, even breaking a sweat on my head in the pool!). I'd never disrupt someone if they looked like they were training hard and trying to stay in the zone. People try and talk to me all the time too.

Good post. The worst is when these people get in their snorkeling gear and just keep swimming back and forth without looking up to see if anyone has to talk to them. And then they take the whole lane. There's only 3 lanes at 24fitness.
