I always have, for reasons others have stated. Probably for the same reason I overtip waitresses (unless they really suck)....I know what kind of crappy wages they get for the work they do. I've never had any complaints either, we always get very well taken care of.

I don't think it's a tipping situation. Most maids make $6.50 an hour or thereabouts, and it's not exactly difficult work.
And I will complain if a room is dirty... there's no reason for that.

I make the beds too. I make them each day/night we stay.
I also straighten the room
and put all the towels in one spot.
