... maids in hotels? I do. My boss said I'm the only one on her staff who does. She also said, however, that I'm the only one who never complains about dirty hotel rooms. And I mean to tip them money. Not over.

no we don't usually.
we have done it on occasion if the person who covers our room has done something extra or really gone out of her way to provide something for the kids...

if I like the service I will. In Mexico I always do. I even tip the door man even though I am capable of opening doors myself.

I don't recall ever seeing the maid in a hotel room before.

You have to stay in something nicer than a roach motel.

Hubby does it for us. And he usually leaves a note and signs our names to it too. He's so funny!

Dittos... I'll also tip the bell-boy, sky-cap and shuttle driver when travelling. I've done a hotel tour-of-duty in college, so I know what a pitiful wage these people make otherwise.

My friend wanted to try the addage of you'll take more naps in the first year then the rest of your marrage so they were going to put a quarter in a jar for each nap. Well the first day, the maid took their roll of quarters.

I do. A $1 per person, per day. My BIL works in the hotel industry, and used to manage housekeeping in an upscale hotel. He thinks bell-boys and such are a scam and will carry his own luggage (which is apparently gets the bellboys talking bad about ya), but he says to always tip house keeping. In his opinion, they work harder for less money than anyone else in the hotel and those few extra bucks mean a lot to them.
