A police officer fell out of a RCMP Zodiak boat on the weekend and was lost. I've been watching the news and apparently they have just recovered the body. I guess he was wearing his full uniform with Kevlar and belt and sunk like a stone.
Shouldn't they be wearing life jackets out on the water? Especially with all the heavy gear they have to pack on their person.

That's sad. I guess they are always in danger. Either from man or nature. Were they searching for a bad guy where he might've been shot?

I can't imagine wearing all that gear all the time.

Would a jacket have supported them with all the gear you mention? (I'm guessing yes, which makes your question a very legitimate one).

I think they were just running drills on the lake. I'll have to reread the article.

most PO's that do marine work would have a vest that would support all that equipment for that very reason.

I am sure the SOP's of the RCMP will be looked at here.
