For your land line, what do you have? What can't you live without?

We have a set that is one corded phone with a connection to a cordless. That's really nice. It has an answering machine, speaker, and fun stuff like that.

I just have call waiting. I like it.
One thing I'd like to know, if you don't mind a minimal hijack, is what if anything I need to do to keep an incoming phonecall from wreaking havoc on my being online. Can I fix that and how?
Now back to our regularly scheduled thread. Thanks PF.

I don't use my land line much at all, so I was thinking of cutting back the excess on the bill but I don't know if I could live without call waiting or caller ID. I got very used to those features in college when they were $2/month on the campus lines.

I've been thinking of getting rid of my land line altogether.

In your setup of the internet, where your dialup stuff is configured, there should be a thing asking if you have call waiting, and should have an option to disable it. What happens is, before dialing the number you are using, it will do a *## (cannot remember what the 2-digit code is) that disables your call waiting, then will dial up the number you use to connect. We used that when we had dailup years ago, and I could help you more if I had dialup now, but I don't... Maybe PH knows.
Easier fix is to get cable.

On the line itself we just have call-waiting. We had caller ID years ago and the numbers that showed up were the people we knew, not all the telemarketers and other unavailable numbers. So I want no part of it.

I had Caller ID, Call Waiting, 3-way Calling.
I cut the cord last May and now my only phone is my cell phone. It was about the best decision I've made in a long time: After upgrading my cell minutes and features, I'm still saving about $50 a month.
