Posted: 12/19/02 - 14:48 Post subject: our very uneventful train ride today-
from my earlier post this morning many of you may have read that i took abby, jj, hannah and carol (abby's nurse) to downtown philly today to see a christmas light show that has been around for many many years.
short story
i will never take the train their again
short story even longer begins now
we get to the local train station early to get tickets and wait. besides the five of us we have, 1 diaper bag for jj and hannah, 1 supply bag for abby, abby's ventilator in case there is a problem with her breathing, and one small bag for all of their bottles. We have one twin stroller that took abby and hannah and a very compact stroller that pushed jj (it was folded up hanging on abby's stroller)
we are ready to get on the train the conductor say, i dont like this at all as he watches (yes watches) carol and i haul the three kids up the stairs, and gather all of the bags (no more than 15 pounds) and try to get the kids and equipment settled in...he was even more ticked when we both had to make second trips to get the rest of the bags. i was ready to throw him off the train.
we arrived safely the other conductor who replaced him when he got off at another stop, advised the engineer of our needing a little bit more time to get off...no problem.
on our way back..conductors very helpful in getting us on (only one trip this time, we were better prepared)
as we approach our stop near my house we gather all of the kids and equipment and head to the exit to save time...carol waited with the three kids and i went to get the stollers..by the time i turned back to get the strollers the train was moving again (i was literaly 5 feet from the door), turns out the steps we entered the train by went up and were not put down for us so carol, the 3 kids a 10,000.00 dollar ventilator and two diaper bags were in the middle of the two trains as they moved....I quickly dropped the coach and run to get jj and hannah...jj is absolutely terrified and is screaming, carol already had abby and hannah and was already in the train. by the time i had jj the conductor had arrived realizing he told the train to go to soon. he stayed with us until the next stop and helped us to unload and gave us tickets for the way back to our other stop.
although we had to wait 20 minutes for the train the two conductors on this train were extremely helpful. they even pulled the train up to the special handicapped ramp for us to help us off. a citizen on the train heard the struggle of our tale today and grabbed jj and two bags and helped us off. i gave the guy a nice smile, a thanks and handshake for his dudeness...
we arrived home safely and jj and hannah went right to sleep
SEPTA-we try harder (is there slogan)
try harder for what
thanks for nothing but sub par service

I just sent them a praise/complaint letter. It was long and repititive to my prior post so let's just say praises were given along with some bad commentary.

A monthly pass on SCHLEPTA to go 8 miles costs more than it does for someone who lives in White Plains, in Westchester County, New York to ride all the way to Wall Street in Manhattan, an hour+ ride.
I used to take SCHLEPTA to work and not until every passenger in the car smelled smoke and was loudly wondering about it did they bother to mention there was a fire in the engine.
They've got a long way to go before I'll believe they're trying harder. Glad you wrote them a note. I bet they send you some free passes.

I have nothing against mass transit, but it sure isn't stroller friendly.
