Posted: 06/22/05 - 11:31 Post subject: organizational politics
Ok first of all typing the word organizational was a "mouthful" for my fingers to type.
ok, why do people alway have to add politics to any group? As many of you know i volunteer with the National Skate Patrol (NSP). Basic mandate is to teach people the basics to skating as well a the ettiquette and laws. We also assist the local clubs when there is an event and are used as traffic deputies. The goal is to provide a good face for the skating community and to promote safe, smart and polite skateing and lobby to get skating as a legal means of transportation.
So the board of this Nationally are folks that know each other from years of skating and visiting each other's clubs, or were in the same club at one time or another. Here in Atlanta i took over the Lead Patroller position, compare to a COO of a company. There is one guy "over me", the director who is the CEO. I got a call from the National board to take over the CEO position because they think i can do it and they are fed up with the CEO but would not or could not give me any specifics on what he was/was not doing to thier liking. I basically already run this chapter but the CEO keeps the posturing and politcal BS out of my mail. I could run it, BUT.....one i don't like the way they are approaching me and not Kenny (CEO) and I together on this topic. I called Kenny and asked if he knew anything and of course he was not informed but recalls when the CEO of Chicago got black balled because he did not do something to the mandate.
there is no Power, it's all volunteer, there is sure as hell no glory. only maybe satisfaction. I can't see money being a motivator for the politics. the skating industry in the US is failing miserably, so why all the posturing?

I would gracefully decline unless your chapter would fold.

my fear is that the national guy that is living here would take over if i decline. the guy does not have a good reputation and was not welcomed when he moved back to ATL. if he took over the club would fold due to everyone jumping ship and letting the rat go down with the ship.

I'd accept condolences better , I hate politics. I've always been in a leadership role in both my skate clubs but have been flat out adamant about not being a board member. i hate social niceties
