I think the option should exist for those who choose to know.

I personally could not give a child up for adoption and if I did, I would want to know how they were progressing through their life even though I might not ever contact the child.

I am not adopted, but have known of adoptees who believe it's absolutely absurb to think they want to know the parents who didn't want them (extinuating circumstances aside).
