The Marine called me here at work! He's in northern Africa of all places and doing quite well.

Prolly not too much r&r, I saw on the weather channel the other day, the hottest spot on the planet was in parts of Libya, 135-heat index. At least we know he's not there, but probably close.

Glad to hear he's out of Iraq. At least right now. Sad

I'm really glad he's ok, even though my heart is breaking at the same time for Ohio's losses this week.

He's not seen Iraq yet Aire. He's been just about everywhere but there. Fortunately, the strike group his batallion is with is a reserve force patrolling the entire Persian Gulf region and they've not been called into any real battles. Luck of the draw went his way.

On the topic of Romnel and desert warfare, I think being in a tank would be right up there on the pant-crapping scary list with being in a submarine. It takes a special kind of brave/crazy to volunteer for either of those things.

Chris doesn't get to do the tank thing. He's military licensed to drive Humvees, dirt bikes and specialized SUV's and also licenesed to haul live ammo and ordnance. A good part of his training also involved helicopters but he certainly isn't a helicopter pilot.

In the Canadian military he'd be driving a Suzuki sidekick with a slingshot tied to the roof.
You guys have all the best war stuff.
