I'm watching them now and obsessed--exciting stuff here. Women's 1500m--what about that Amy Rudolph's burst at the end for 3rd place? She had probalby 8' strides there and Alan Webb was unreal...its great! Why don't they broadcast more track and field on TV???
sorry crazy frog, I would be watching you if any of my neighbors were home...

| Because they're frickin' obsessed with women's gymnastics. That's the 'why' question.

The way Alan Webb ran the 1500 gave the textbook example of "giving a spanking" to the rest of the field. And where was Stember who told Webb, "this is my track" in the semis?.. 11th outta 12...ha!

That speed burst was awesome. All of a sudden this little white guy starts motoring away from the field and my jaw dropped.
I recorded every minute of the trials. Loved it! I'm not a big field event or decathalon guy, but other than that, i have no complaints.

My Alan Webb story...
Alan is from Reston, VA (where I live) and went to South Lakes High School (where I live at the track! ). Last year during a Women's Distance Festival 5k (my running anniversary race) Alan showed up! He wasn't there for the race, he was there for his track time but didn't realize a race was going on. This race is pretty much geared toward newbie runners so many people had no clue who he was. My husband and I, however, were snapping photos of him left and right! Then, when we got home we realized we had a photo of Alan and a photo of me on the same part of the track. So, my husband attempted a little photoshop editing and I have a picture of me "beating" Alan on the track!
He is a really nice guy, though. Very down-to-earth and friendly. I saw his race the other night and he was pretty amazing! I wish him the best! GO ALAN!!!!!

the olympic standard for 3 athletes to compete. If the winner gets the a standard the next two can go. Other wise only the winner goes automatically and the other have a few weeks to get the a standard to go

No! USA Network did a great job of showing ALL of the longer events. 1500 and 5000 in particular. The 10ks did have commercials and "reports" from the shotput, long jump, etc. But not too bad.
I think it was the best week of distance running coverage any of us could have ever asked for.
NBC buggered it up a bit on the weekends, but the USA feed during the week was the shizzle.

And I should add there weren't any interruptions for tear jearking stories about some 7th place 800m runner losing their pet hamster when they were five years old. Also, it wasn't all about the sprinters and all about the BALCO druggies. I was worried at first, but they kind of focused on the running and who was winning after the druggies started to fail to qualify.
The 800, 1500, 3000 sc, 5000, and 10k men's and women coverage were very good.
Also, for those that missed it - ESPN classic aired a 1 hour special on Olympic Distance Runners. They have actual footage of Zatopek, Mills, Ovett/Coe, Keino, etc. It was da' bomb! And I taped that, too.
