So I walk around the small lake in town at lunch, as I usually do, and there is a speedboat and two rafts on the water. And EMS and popo everywhere. They are trolling for some 21 yr old who attempted to swim the lake last night and came up short..... what's sick is the amount of people watching from shore in lawn chairs, etc. and seemingly using it as their afternoon entertainment until Jerry Springer comes on....

You'd be surprised at how many people turn out for that kind of stuff... There's usually a bunch of people to watch car accidents in the same fashion.

They found the guy yesterday at 1:30 pm. He was fishing with some family members the night before and decided to go for a swim to cool off.

I don't believe there are any real currents or undertow. It's a small lake, a couple of acres in size and it's spring-fed. There is a fountain in the middle that is used for aereation and he apparently was intending on swimming to the fountain and using it to rest up before he swam back. Never got to the fountain.

That's sad stuff. Wonder if there was liquor involved?
As for the 'spectators' in lawn chairs? Was the Peanut Guy around hawking peanuts as well? "PEANUTS! GOT YOUR HOT PEANUTS HERE!"

No peanut guy. An opportunity missed.
