I'll be short...

A 5th grader in the class next door to me was murdered by his mother on Monday. He was beaten to death. This happened in the neighborhood that surrounds my school and all the kids watched the news unfold...saw the yellow tape surrounding the house...and are confused.

I'm still trying to process this. I've lost students to a lightening strike...falling off a roof...and having a sibbling disappear for years to now be found dead by being struck by a car and hidden(Erika Baker story in Kettering, OH).

But this haunts me.

How can a mother do this?

I'm still dealing with the aftermath today. My school is a tight knit community. Everyone knows everyone. It's hard for my 4th graders to understand.

This was not in the job description.

Sad

Ouch. I don't know what else to say. You (and everyone else) should never have to deal with that. Sad

I'm just not equipped to handle something like that. I pray the kids (and you) get assistance to get you through this.

A good book to read about this is called "When Bad Things Happen to Good People"

In the time I was a Special Deputy, I worked three cases where parents or SO's killed a child and hid the body.

They were always sad, and I was horrified by the attitude and lack of accountability of the parent(s).

All three cases were reported as a "Missing Child" by the parent(s) with fake tears and cry's for public assistance in finding the child, and in all cases they had knowledge of, or were responsible for the childs death.

The school should be bringing in special resources to help the staff and students deal with the loss.

We hear more about these type cases now because of the media and WWW. Up until the late 60's or early 70's this sort of thing was not discussed outside the local community unless it was a high profile individual. Same with rape, racial assult etc...

I pray you able to deal with this loss, and that you and the students find peace.

I'm sorry Noley.

I had no idea you were affected by Erika Baker. That affects us as well.

I'll pray for you and all the family there.... sometimes life just sux.

I just don't understand how you could do that. How sad and how terribly hard to deal with and understand as an adult, much less other children.
