Didn't know which forum to post this in. dunno

This weekend I made a command decision, that I am not going to run my scheduled marathon this October. I was looking at my mileage log, and the "Parrot Predictor" and just did not feel ready to put in a good effort. I could have made it, but it would have been ugly.

I was also concerned about my 1/2 marathon last sunday. I ran a good time, but was completely dead the last two miles. I had nothing left in the tank. I was also sore for 4 solid days afterwards, wheras last year, I felt good 2 days after the race.

I have a 5K planned in a few weeks. This should enable me to "enjoy" my runs a little more. It'll be easier to get up early and run 4-8 miles. The prospect of doing the P & D program was daunting, all those 10 and 12 mile runs in the middle of the week...

So, I'm ok, a little dissappointed in myself. I've run 4 marathons over the past three years, and wanted to do one each year, so this wasn't an easy decision. But, as the wise Mrs. Coach told me, "Your not Superman, you know." Just too much stuff going on in my life right now to adequately train for and run a decent marathon. I don't think I could handle bonking like I did last year, so hopefully this decision is for the best.

Thanks for all your support. I'm still looking forward to Chery and Poky's reports from that day, I just won't be running with you.

I'm sorry you won't be running with Cheryl and I, but I know you made
the best although difficult decision for you.

Sounds like a wise move to me, Coach.

You'll definitely get our war stories and can live vicariously through our poky (me) and notsopoky (Poky) marathon reports!! Mr. Green

coach, I know exactly where you're at...my marathon streak is being interrupted this year too...i've been busy enough with work and family this year to make me wonder how i ever found the time to train for a marathon to begin with as well as doubt whether I'll ever be able to again at least over the next couple of years....but I don't think it's going to hurt me to have a little break and concentrate on shorter distances for awhile...

Sorry to hear about that, Coach. But you did make the best decision. Maybe focus on 1/2's while #3 and #4 are tiny, then after things have settled down, go get a full.

Sounds like you made a very good decision. And don't forget, there are always more marathons to run!
