Let's play a new game. It's called "What was I thinking?" Start with that and add a phrase that tells the world about your glaring error in judgment. Then assign your freakout factor from 1 to 10. I'll go first.

What was I thinking when I decided to write this paper? I am in WAY over my head. Freakout factor=8.

My old mate 'Nuge' knows this bloke who knows a bloke who knows the trainer of this horse that cannot lose, a monty, a dead cert, a stone bonker, in other words it's past the post.

What was I thinking as I upped the ante of my normal modest $5 bet.

Out of pocket factor:- $50

Easily the best phrase I've heard lately. Can you tell us more about what it means?

Go,
didn't realise it was a colloquial term.

STONE BONKER: local racing parlance for a certain winner.

What was I thinking when I decided to spend two nights at my grandma's house instead of just getting a hotel? My baby couldn't run around the house, I had to sleep on the sofa, and the water pressure on the shower was almost none. Freakout factor: 6 - would be higher but I did get to spend time with my dear grandma which made it worth the stay.

what was I thinking when I plugged my ipod into my laptop to charge it and instead erased and synced my ipod with my laptop that has none of my itunes on it, 1 hour before I wanted to leave? What was I then thinking when I tried to re-sync all eleventy billion songs and shows on my desktop to my ipod 10 minutes before I wanted to leave for the airport???

Freak out factor: 6ish, because I already know my flight is delayed at least 66 minutes so I guess I have the time (maybe even a 7 just for all the ipod-geeked out lingo I used above)
