the resort we stayed at was beautiful. very small; only 3 cabanas, was owned by an american woman a few years older than me and her very hot boyfriend. the place is supposed to be one of the top 50 resorts in central america and the restaurant is one of the top 20 in central america. we were in the cabana farthest from the water and it was still only 20 yards to the beach. the bar was about half way between the beach and our room.
the trip started out uneventful. we left for houston around 9:30ish, got there on time. our connecting flight to belize city was delayed an hour because of storms. we arrived in belize not too far off schedule and got on the cessna that took us to the island. even when its grey and nasty, the water is crystal clear and green.
the begining of the week consisted of laying on the beach doing nothing during the day and hanging out at the beach bar at night. on tuesday, we attempted to take the kayak out to "the pole". the pole was a big pole you could tie your boat to and snorkle if you wanted. we never made it. the wind was very strong and the water was really rough. and silly us put sunscreen on our faces. for future reference, a saltwater/sunscreen combo is not at all plesant for the eyes.
evidently wednesday night is ladies night in town. my friend and i had our own ladies night on tuesday. lets just say that wednesday was an "inside"day... after we felt better on wed, we went to town for dinner and a stop at the internet cafe place.
thursday, there was more lying on the beach followed by a really cool thunder storm that made the water turn a very errie, glowing green color. then there was more hanging out at the bar.
friday we went snorkling at the reef. honestly, i was disapointed with the reef, but it was still really neat since id never seen one before. i was picturing a wealth of vibrant colored corals and fish. the coral was mostly green and dull yellow and there werent as many fish as id thought thered be. but i did see several nurse sharks and stingrays. we saw just as many cool little fishes in the "mini reefs" (rock clusters just in the water) along the shore where we were wading. friday night was also the last night for the couple who was staying at the resort while we were there. so we spent it with them, the owner, and a few locals having a lots of drinks and stuff.
on sat, we slept in and went to town to do some shopping and came back to hang out at the bar.
i saw lots of lizards and birds and someone said they killed a crocodile a few days earlier just a little ways up the beach.
the real "adventure" was the trip home. our cessna flight to the main land was uneventful and we made it to houston fine. but as we were approaching the gate at houston, a huge storm hit and all the ground crew had to run for cover. because of that and the fact that about 5 other international flights arrived at the same time, it took an hour for our luggage to make it to the carrousel. once we finally got it, we booked it to customs, rechecked our bags, went through another set of customs, went thru security and had about 2 minutes to make it to our plane. so we sprinted the entire houston airport. for those of you familliar with the place, you know what an olympic sport that can be. now imagine doing it with a full backpack, sandals, and a case of beer. we barely made it to the plane and as we got settled the pilot came on and said that because of the storm, we were about 40th in line to taxi to the runway. so, 2 hours later we took off and arrived in atlanta about 2 hours late.
all in all an excellent time was had by all. my friend and i now have about 10 new stories to laugh at and we are planning our trip back...

Glad you had a great time.
I thought of you on two occasions:
1) When they discovered the new fish species off the coast of Brazil, I don't know why, I just did.
2) When i saw an interesting looking gray frog on the wheel of my tractor. I hadn't seen one that color before. I tried getting a picture, but was out of film.
