with professional manicures.
i love the way my manicured hands look. especially with a freshly cleaned engagement ring.
but within hours i have chipped a nail. and DIY repairs look aweful.
so it sucks, i spend all that money and time on a manicure that i know wont last two days.

Find a cosmetic school who will do it for $5.

Change salons. A pro manicure should last longer than that.

I just spent $18 on four bottles of OPI nailpolish (three were discontinued colors so I got them cheapo)... I'm set for manicures/pedicures for the summer.
I still need to use the gift certificate that I received for VD for a salon man/ped. I'm saving it for a special occasion...and I'm trying to be patient for a special occasion to happen. <sigh>

My nails are beautiful. I trim them weekly with a pair of scissors about 6" long.

Manicurists hate me. I refuse nail polish. I like to just go and have the nails and skin around the nails cleaned up. But no polish. And the toes. I love polish but can't go at the moment. Lost a toe nail the other day and have one that is black and about to go. They look at me like I'm a freak when I show up without toe nails.

I prefer to use the big toenail clippers instead of scissors or even fingernail clippers. I prefer to keep mine as short as possible, so I average about 2x a week.

I have never had long fingernails (except for fake ones for my wedding which I promptly ripped off once I got back to our room because if I couldn't figure out how to open a door with them, who knows what else I wouldn't be able to do).
Once in a while I put light colored polish on them. I am so exciting, I know.

I can't grow fingernails for anything, and on the rare day they grow they tear right off.
I had fake ones once and they looked great but I couldn't tie my shoes, or rationalize the expense of the upkeep.
I don't even put light polish on them because I paint nails about as well as my 4 year old niece does. So, don't look at my hands too closely please.
the upside to all this is I understand most hospitals prohibit nurses from wearing nail polish/fake nails/etc. So I'd have to give it all up if I was into it anyway.

As the martial art I train in has a lot of grappling, I cut mine two times a week...and I am completly missing four of my toenails...
