I had hoped to be under an hour, but it's OK. It was 30 degrees celcius here today and I have never run in that kind of heat before. I also had to stop at 9.2 to pet a Corgi (I love Corgis). I felt great the whole way but didn't seem to be able to push it past my training pace, which was a weird feeling. I think I gave up when the people I went with started in front of me and stayed there, because my legs felt good.

Today served to fuel my competitive juices though, and I've revised my Grand Plan to focus on the 10k this year until I can be competitive in it. This means no half marathon for me in October (I'll run the 10k event instead) but I think right now I want to focus on getting faster instead of longer. So in all I wasn't disappointed in the least. I just shifted my focus a little. Mr. Green

I have two races (both 10k) coming up in June. And now I have a PR to try and beat!

Nicely done Shannon!!!! Running in that kind of heat is really a b!tch...I couldn't even imagine it. 2 mins off your target is pretty good.

Smart move on your part to reassess your goals. Build some good solid mileage at an appropriate pace before you start chomping into the longer distances. You'll be much more satisfied with the end results. Very Happy

Does this mean you won't be sticking around an extra two hours to hand out goodies at the finish line? How am I gong to explain this to my daughter?

Are you kidding? I plan on being so fast at 10k by then that I'll be able to race, go home and bake the brownies, and have them cooling at the finish line by the time you cross!

Great job!!! Shoot, I think you're plenty fast! Glad you enjoyed the race, and had the heart to stop and pet the pup.
