Posted: 03/30/04 - 12:36 Post subject: my extended weekend in Pittsburgh WITH PIX!
Thursday I left work at 4pm for the 6:15 trip to The Neighborhood. I arrive at 9:20 and am greeted warmly by Pebbles and BamBam. Their 4 children stare at me, unsure of what to make of the girl who's SOOO EXCITED to see their parents again. After unloading the car and settling in, the 3 of us attack the beer. Next thing I know it's 2:30 and I scuttle off to bed.
Friday the kids have off from school. I scuffle down for breakfast, and Bam makes me a tasty omelet. I then shower and play with the kids. In the afternoon Pebbs and I go out to lunch and do some shopping (NEW SHOES!). Friday night we meet up with noley and rolling rock for Ladies Night Out. Noley is, well, noley. Neurotic and crazy, but caring and funny. rolling rock is a little quieter than I had expected, but a great lady from whom I know I can learn alot. It was great to finally meet the lady behind the scary ass cat avatar .

Da Ladies:
Saturday morning up at 6:15. Gather up our stuff and Pebbs Jr. and MiniBam, then pick up rock and noley. Meet up with robp and Sahara and Sahara Jr, run a race. Meet keltic at the end. All disperse to clean up, then meet up at Quaker Steak & Lube for the 2nd Annual East Meets West Supah Drinking Fest®. With 9 people it was a little crazy, but so much fun. robp was exactly as I expected, but in much better shape and tauter than the horrible photos he posts of himself (hot, ladies, HOT!). And he's funny as hell. keltic was in some ways what I expected, in some ways not (in a good way, of course). He has the rare gift of making you feel that he's talking only to you, that only you matter, when he engages you in conversation. And he didn't flinch when I blurted out weird questions. I wish I would've been able to spend more time with him ... he seems like a guy I could have a great time with over beers or a non-Starbucks coffee. Sahara was as sweet, kind, and brilliant as I had remembered. Her daughter is just like her, too. Whipsmart, well-spoken, and articulate.

We then go home. While the kids are playing video games and noley's on the computer, Bam and I decide to have our own crazy version of Wrestlemania. Which consisted of him using real wrestling moves on me, and me kicking, pulling hair, and punching. Poor Pebbs - she now had six kids to watch after. Another late night filled with laughter and beer.
Sunday I shuffle downstairs to yet another fabulous Bam breakfast (he's quite the cook). The kids are excited because we're going to Dave & Buster's. We're now like family, and the kids fight about who's going to sit in my lap, who's going to sit with me on the couch, and who's going to sit with me in the car. I'm having a blast with these well-behaved, intelligent, fun kids. All four have a distinct, unique personality, but they love each other so much and almost restore my faith in parenthood. What a legacy these children will be to their parents. We pick up noley and go to P.F. Chang's for lunch. I show the kids how to use chopsticks, noley talks Bam's ear off and gave everyone fabulous presents. Pebbs moves from conversation to conversation, trying to keep up with the insanity. We then head to D&B for a day of fun! MiniBam, my new boyfriend, won me a beautiful silver & crystal bracelet. Daughter S offered to give noley and I prizes, but when I suggested she instead offer them to her sister who needed some, she gladly did so. Then gave more points to her other sister. My jaw dropped - this would never have happened in my family!

We go home after touring the waterfront, and drink some more. After some BBQ we settle in to play video games and then watch TV. I don't think I'll get up early enough to say goodbye to the girls, so we say goodbye. Pebbs Jr. looked so sad that I was leaving. The kids go off to bed, Bam falls asleep on the couch, and Pebbs and I "girltalk" until late into the night over drinks.
Monday morning I wake up earlier than expected. Smiles all around, and final goodbyes. Bam goes off to work after a big hug of thanks from me. Pebbs & I walk MiniBam to the bus stop, and he says "I miss you already, Lauri!" Pebbs and I go out to breakfast, and then sadly say goodbye. I leave for my trip home, with a heavy heart.
Outside of a couple hours on Saturday morning, I had the best weekend I've had in a long time. My every need was taken care of. I was pampered, loved, and respected. I was allowed to be a rowdy kid again, and completely enjoyed kicking Bam's butt, talking about everything with Pebbs, and playing with the kids. Some of you know how hard the last few months have been for me. This weekend recharged my batteries immensely at a time when I needed it most. I cannot say enough how grateful I am to Pebbs and Bam, for their hospitality as well as their lifelong friendship. They are truly great friends, parents, and role models for us all. Though my liver hates them today.
