well, I did my first 5k for the year. It was a small town adventure and I had done the 10k there 2 years ago, so what the heck. The course record is supposedly 19:47 and it is 10+ years old and I decide it's time to come down. Although the record was set my a woman that I know has run 10ks in 36-37 minutes (should have been a clue).

The 10k and 5k start together and it's your typical adventure where 9-10 year boys line up in the front row along with some guys. I line up behind a guy that I know ran low 18 a few yrs ago. Gun goes off and everyone sprints like heck...approaching mile one people are already breathing hard. I go by at 6 mins even----right on! I hit the turnaround at 9:00 and I'm feeling strong and I have 4 guys in front of me-----one guy keeps going (he's the 10ker and he's kicking ahead of everyone). I pass another guy that appears to be more worried about the lady beating him than running his own race. Mile 2 --12:04 (I figure I lost a little on actually turning around). I now slide into 2nd and breathing hard as I'm just outside the stadium and I'm at 18:02???.............hmmm you have to run a lap before you finish....well I sure as crap know from doing plenty of 400s on a track that it's going to take me 80 something secs to get around that track Mad . So I finish 19:22 first female and 2nd OV. The first guy finished 19:02. So I guess either the course was long or I run 5ks and a slower pace than 10ks?????

Oh---that 10k guy ran a sub-36 and the 10k is a tough course with some parts on sand....plus someone said it was definitely .2 meters long.

Me? going back to the long stuff.
