that when you skip your long run to sleep in because you aren't feeling great, your smoke detector's battery, located on your 12' ceiling, unreachable by anything you may have to stand on, will die precisely when you would have had to get up anyway. /cranky and tired Evil or Very Mad Evil or Very Mad Evil or Very Mad

Yes, yes they are, I know, I know. But, ours are electric. This is the battery back up. Mad

update: I went to the local (non-24 hour) walgreens and sat in the parking lot until the poor girl opened the place, then brought my 9v back, got my roommate's desk chair, my random house dictionary, pathophysiology and my med surg books and with a ball point pen in hand, standing en pointe (thank you Miss Janet and your 1988 point class), I got the battery situtation resolved. If you are me and are afraid of heights so severely that 4" heels scare you, you'd understand what an undertaking that task was. I'm just saying.

oh, and where was getto booty beth? doing our long run Mad

You could have called your local fire station, they would have come over and changed the battery

Yes we have done that

Especially if you had called 911 and said "my smoke alarm is going off." A bunch of nice fireman would have hurried over to help you.

What I meant was, people would call the station directly and ask us for help. We have installed a lot of smoke detectors for folks

But I hadn't thought of the fire station angle. I live nearly across the street from one station and not far from another, full of not hard on the eyes guys who give me water when I run pink love

well, this is comforting -- to have the fire stations so close.

you're not a running hussy, are you? didn't think so Razz .

good job on the battery change. my balance isn't what it used to be so i'd have been in a heap, thinking "i've fallen and i can't get up"

No sense in buying a ladder or anything for such tasks!
I'll have to remember this when my batteries go out here at this place. Razz

Let's see...
I've got stacks of Junie B. Jones books...
1 Betty Crocker cookbook...
a mechanical pencils...
and some cute, very cute, strappy sandals with 3 inch heals that should do the trick...YES???

Thanks for the awesome tip pffff!

What's the saying? Necessity or a chirping smoke alarm is the mother of invention?
