Posted: 06/06/05 - 15:18 Post subject: mooseman I am- mooseman 1/2 IM
Well Dancer submitted a nice detailed report and I will submit my highlights and lowlights of the day.......
Total time 5:35, slower than my one and only 1/2 IM in 2002 but this course was so much tougher and 90 plus degree weather did not help.
Swam well and much faster than I ever have before, felt comfortable and did not get beat up too much. Will never be a fish though, 34:31 for the 1.2 mile splash, with a pleasant 60 degree water temp. A 4 minute PR on this distance.
T1-3:19, no complaints
Bike-total time of 3:06 for the 56 miles, first lap was 1:30 and second 1:36, was feeling those hills by the end. Could have probably ate more on the bike. Did I mention the sun beating down on us?? Definitely harder bike course than IMLP.
T2-1:59, looking forward to running
Run- hmmm what happened to running being my comfortable sport?? First 2 miles were hell with the sun, being a little undernourished, and just darn tired, actually started thinking about quitting which I never really think about.......finally after many waters and dumps of water on my head, as well as some Gu, I finally got in a rhythm about mile 3.5 finally started to feel comfortable and started to pass others. First lap 55 minutes second lap 54 minutes but feeling o so much stronger. Total run time 1:49 for 13.1, slow for me but with the limited running I have been doing due to an injury(longest run to date has been 1:40) cannot complain.
Takeaways:
Pretty darn proud of pulling myself out of pretty dark place mentally and physically during the run.
7 weeks to IMLP must focus on more running time and work on some bike hill repeats.
Thrilled with my swimming right now, could I PR in IMLP for the swim and go under 1:20??
overall on schedule for IMLP and feeling remotivated
the numbers:
Total time: 5:35
173rd out of 395, 37 out of 66 in my age group
that is all

Mike you did awesome! I loved seeing you on the run but I almost cried the first time I saw you! And I noticed a sponge under your hat: said to myself. Girl, go get yourself a sponge. Helped keep me cool during the 2nd lap.
Repeat after me: "I will not sign up for IM2006...I will not sign up for IM2006...I will not sign up for IM2006..."

HELLA YA H2T!!
What can I say? For what it's worth, you still come out of this 1/2 IM with outstanding results for it being a harder course and you're having to deal with running challenges right now! You did it, you did it, you did it! Gear up for IMLP!
Fantastic!

fantastic job. your training pays off here in a huge way. i'm amazed you both handled this course with that incredible heat and the second half of your run being "stronger" than the first PR on the swim
great race Happy2tri
