1) I agree on Kerry's tax cuts. I think they will be as ineffectual as Bush's tax rebates.
2) Most senators are not rich. Their pay is not that great.
3) Who will shoulder the burden? People like me.

So what's your answer then? I honestly can't come up with one that doesn't screw somebody over.....not to mention that math was never my strong point.
Seriously, not trying to start an argument, but what CAN be done on that issue that would satisfy at least the majority of the people? I think this is a biggie for the undecided voters, at least a lot of the ones I have talked to....

Just to add some figures...
According to senate.gov,
The annual salary for a senator is $158,100
Senate leaders earn $175,700 per year.

Compared to corp. execs, this is nothing.

How much did Kerry and Heinz-Kerry pay in taxes. I believe their effective tax rate was like 12.5 percent.
So much for those rich paying their share.

it will be burdened by anyone that has "earned taxable income". The corporate rich are not rich by the salary they earn. It's the "other" income. Elkid, please let me know some of these loopholes that I can use, I'll pass it on to my accountant. I'm only aware of the ones that most middle class use, charitable donations, home, and kids. My husband doesn't get "other" in his job.....he doesn't even get health benefits. I'm not whining, but I think 40% when you don't have anymore write-offs or freebies, as the person paying <20% is paying my fair share and I can't vote for another increase on myself, not from a guy that has all the loopholes---and that's my complaint. I do agree that most people in my income bracket do get freebies...(leased cars, stocks...), but in healthcare, even if they could get nice kick-backs (and don't think drug companies don't want to)....they can't.

Maybe they're corporate execs.

It also firmly ensconces them in the 28% tax bracket if filing jointly. Hardly rich, but nicely middle class.
1/3 is not MOST. And your own article points that the millionaires clearly didn't get their money from the Senate. Faulty logic.

This is why taxation isn't really a huge issue for me. It's such a hot topic, but no one in recent memory has ever had a great plan for it. Until the country and its leaders see that we're giving away our future in terms of all the money we spend on foreign aid instead of helping our own at home, the taxation issue will never have an answer.
I for one am sick and tired of seeing how much money we pour out to other countries, and then seeing the homeless, the un- or underinsured, the hungry, and the uneducated in my travels.

I realize that, I was responding to kido's statement:

Hell I think I could live pretty comfortably on a Senate salary.
I don't think people want to be a Senator for the money. I think its more of a power thing
