The weather is terrible. Ranging from high 80s to 100, humidity from 85 to 100%. Yes, kids, I've been RUNNING in this. Long runs, too, where I arrive back at the hotel dripping wet. So wet the concierge has repeatedly said, "Ma'am, you can't swim in the pool in your clothes.
Met a new friend, Tom (very much like Big Tom from Survivor) on Tuesday and we made plans to go out last night. Went to Tunk's Cypress Inn because we'd heard rumors there was karaoke goin' on. Had a fantastic steak and fried alligator (wouldn't recommend the gator; too chewy and gooey). We sat overlooking the Kincaid Lake. I must be spending too much time in rural America, because I actually thought the view was spectacular. I mused how cool it would be to go ride in a boat on the lake, and our waitress Berenda said "Oh, one of the fellas in the kitchen has a boat. He can take you out." And he did. Way cool.
Berenda informed us no karaoke that night, but invited us to join her "in not yet a long while" to join her and her coworkers at the Boat Landing. So off we went. Apparently it was leaked that karaoke was wanted, so the bartender set up an impromptu karaoke night just for us. After my fantastic rendering of Pat Benatar's "Heartbreaker" a few rounds made it my way. Brought the house down with "The Devil Went Down to Georgia" in true Coyote Ugly style, stompin' on the bar with Berenda. Early to bed, for up at 530am today for a grueling 8 miles.
People sure are friendly down here, and very welcoming of Northerners. Not what I was expecting. Nice to know I can find or create a party wherever I go. Though I can't wait to get home early, early Saturday morning. The Kid needs some sleep.

See? The south isn't so horrible! And we do actually run here--outside Where are you anyway?
Alligator is only okay. Tastes like really dry chicken to me. I'd rather have the real thing (chicken that is).
I'm not sure why but picturing you in these images, particularly riding around in a swamp boat, makes me giggle....

Saw Charlie Daniels in concert. And, yes I know all the words to that song.

Alexandria, LA. I found a residential area after running through the (I'm not kidding) Pentecostal compound and was surprised to see one Cape and all ranchers. Guess the heat makes everybody stay low.
I looked like a natural in that boat. Whooping and hollering the whole way. Tom, a Southerner, almost fell in but I did not. I have good hanging on skills after years in NYC taxis.

I've got to vamp up my allergy meds before I go. I forget what the humidity does to me there and I'm spoiled here in the desert.

I love Charlie Daniels! I've seen him in concert twice!
should I be embarrassed to admit that?
Kid I have a running partner from Alexandria! My dad goes there a lot for bid'ness too. I've never been. But I know how to get there should you need me to rescue you from renegade cajuns Ask someone how to pronounce Natchitoches. Let me just tell you its not said how it looks. Its a town not far from where you are where I think they filmed Steel Magnolias.
