Two years ago I could hardly swim 25m now I'm doing Ironman (well when the weather co-operates I will be..). I'm still a swimming dyslexic, but its amazing what a wetsuit can compensate for Surprised .

The trick to getting comfortable in open water is to spend as much time in it as possible. I figured if I was going to be a crap swimmer I would be a confident crap swimmer. I came from a scuba diving background, but never quite got really comfortable in the water. This past year I have tried to do an open water swim (starting off swimming parallel to the beach, just off shore) each week and now I have no nerves about it at all. Now I just need to learn how to go faster so its off to swim squad for me - its Embarassed at the thought of it but I'm told its the only way I'll really get faster.
