Posted: 06/12/04 - 13:56 Post subject: masters 10k PR
....of course it's my first 10k as a masters , so therefore, to achieve a PR, I would only have to cross the finish.
I ran the Bellin 10k this morning and it went pretty well. It's a pretty competitive race here in N WI and if you peter out at the finish you "will" be passed.
I predicted a 39:20 for myself, knowing that my capabilities are closer to high 38's but I was having some issues and knew that I would not be able to dig deep down for the last .2 mile.
I was pretty much right on. My first mile I went out pretty fast to jostle for position 6 minutes then calmed down for a 6:15 second mile. At the midway point I was 19:30--about where I was predicting (last year I hit at 19 flat). I started to feel real flat and eased off as I didn't want to screw up and go over 40 minutes. Coming down the last stretch I could see that 2 masters women were 15 seconds in front of me.....but I absolutely had no stomach to push deep and I just held on and hoped that no women "caught" me in the last 400 meters. I saw the last seconds of 38 ticking away and did not care enough to push....so I ended with a 39:08.
138th ov
12th female
3rd masters female ?
2nd in the 40-44 AG
hubby ran 37:5X
and Bryce did the kid's run....Andrew decided he didn't want to

Great job.
If I ever ran a 6:15 mile, I wouldn't calm down for a long time

Marvelous "Ms. Master"!
What a great 10K for your first time out in that division. You should be proud of what you did do, and know that you'll "push deep" in some other race!
Congrats to your hubby...he's a fast one too.
Way to go Bryce! Andrew will get into it one day as well.
This will be one zoomin' family before long!
I dream of race times that you make!

Well done and congratulations. Any sub 40 on reaching Masters division is a great effort.
But Sue I've got to ask the question. WHY?
Why run a 10km. two weeks after your marathon.

Well done well done! Congrats for having a plan and sticking to it, even if you DIDN'T get to dig deep.
Does this means your now Master of Your Own Domain, now, huh?
