You need to be an expert at something that is ostensibly recession proof. Put a value on your services that is not tied to the number of hours you work but a commission of sorts. Most people who start successful businesses exploit a niche overlooked by the so-called experts and captains of industry. They get tired of being told, "No, it can't be done that way," so they go off on their own and prove them all wrong.

well after much thought the two sure fire things in life are these:
problems, and death.
i'm not into the whole funeral parlor thing, so i'm gonna get into the business of solutions.
it's where it's at.
i'm reading a good book about cutting back on your wasteful activities at work, and learning to be the best at the most valuable things you can do. basically earn more, in less time, (more income, more time off. at the same time)...
but yeah. i kept thinking marketing marketing marketing... but that's not quite the butter yet... solutions. that's the stuff.

Become a consultant, charge a boatload of money for your services. Most Fortune 500 companies would pay.

The thing is, the people that actually solve the problems and 'get the job done' don't make the 100g's a year.. it's the guy that hires these people and takes credit for their work that makes the 100g's.

You have to use your mind and come up with a great idea....like that guy who invented the pet rock. You know, I had an idea once.....well o.k.....it was a "jump to conclusions mat"......

...well it does take someone to plan the job, and to find the right people to do it does it not?
that's kinda like saying the coach has nothing to do with his team winning...

My boss/manager doesn't do a great job. But he's got a buttload of management experience, blue. He did sales for about 10 years, got a management position and has stayed a manager ever since.
He has alot of 'classics' that he dumps on us daily. Here are his top two:
1. Looks like they shot their wad (when referring to a dealer who sold well at first but then went downhill)
2. Looks like we need to have a 'come to Jesus' meeting with them (when referring to a dealer who is not cooperating with us).
I guess you just need to get your foot in the door somewhere and start beefing up that resume?
