so last night at the Marketing and sponsor ship meeting i had one good idea thet also led to another great idea, but did i sell my soul?

the idea is to "sell" the miles the individual miles would be listed in the program or on our website. that idea then morphed in to the hightes bidder for "Hill" sponsorship. This hill brought to you by the XXXXX on a yard sign at the top of the hill. most of us love the downhills, it's one of the major draws to this event, the downhills, the "downside" (pun meant) is that you need to go back up. Embarassed

what other ideas can you guys come up with?

ideas = good.

just ask yourself if the sponsor would actually go for it - and what benefit would they get from it. if you can't think of a benefit - they probably won't either...

i like sponsored hills.

what point of the race gets more viewing - if you're on the downhill - would you notice a sign? aren't you going pretty fast?

a bidding war might not work out - but having set prices, 'premier' hills being a bit more (etc), might make it easier...

prize packages are always good...

sponsored start line
sponsored finish line
sponsored 'winners' t-shirts
sponsor names on your race number (if you wear one...)
waterstops = good idea j1.

maybe let a vendor set up a booth post-race or something?
let them sponsor the medals or whatever you give out...

that's all i got for now.

the start lines and fish lines are up for sale every year. i think they've blown the finishline concepts with not enough sponsor views, we've discussed this last night.

the hill sales: the signs would be as i invision just before the crest. this would serve as a twofold purpose, more sponsor placement as well as the warning of a "major hill" there are two major hills with speeds hitting near 50 MPH. the top of the hills are not so fast with an AVG of the winners at 19. MPH the uphills are slow enough to read a sign, we all do anyway for traffic and street signs

the views for skate spectators are at the check points, athlete support personnel are reqquired to support from the resat stops, exceptions of course as needed, but no passing water on the course kind of rules. families of the athletes congress there. and the occasional curious bystander. MAIN viewing would be at the start and finish lines and awards ceremonies atteneded by 75% of the folks and support elements/families.

booths, we allow vendor booths at Saturday's registration. there has not been much hang out after the race to continue this at the end of the race. we've done it before a few times and the mentality is SHOWER/ massage, food, and pack. the race is heald on Sunday so a lot of folks are leaving Monday morning and some international athletes leaving Sunday actually
we decided to reduce the cost of the booths in an attempt top get more vendors and let the registration area be busy, busy is good when presenting for next year's sponsors.

there almost always is Smile
hence the 'some' not 'all'.

did you guys have a proper brainstorming session? absolutely no passing judgment on ideas until the end of the session. that might pop a few more ideas in there... evaluate them after your done listing them.

you could always go for sponsored teams a la Tour de France Wink

technically not as true brainstorming. newest members had the same "new" ideas we've done before. HOWEVER the ruce the costs, increase the tables, more banners, sell a mile, sell a hill and do away with the printed program. ( how many of you really look through the programs?) were brainstormed.

as for the teams, we do get some of those already. just not many teams to provide a good event. we do have a few that try to gang up on our version of Lance Armstrong, Eddy Metzger. but he's proven a really dominate force in the ultra distance skate. our teams colors come in the form of club affiliations, most of the clubs have a race suit that we were to show our club affiliation/loyalties too. it is joked that DC and Atlanta made a trade with my arrival. Atlanta says they got ripped off, Razz
