The Mormon wedding I attended had a Canadian bride and an American groom. In the Mormon church it's very important to get married in a temple and not a regular church so they had their ceremony in Richland Wash. Apparently when an American weds a foreign bride these days he is not supposed to leave the country for a minimum of six months so after the ceremony the newly wed couple had to sneal back across the border in separate cars for the Canadian reception. He would have had his passport and work visa seized and travel privileges revoked had they been caught (he works in Canada).
I would be sweating bullets in that border crossing lineup.

Yikes! I hate border crossings--all of them. I am never doing anything wrong, but they make me feel like a criminal anyhow. God forbid I do anything like this guy. I'd probably confess to all sorts of things.
I can't believe that Canada/America don't have any "friendly neighbor" status on situations like the one you describe.

There may have been one at one time, but things have really changed with Homeland Security. I don't know any Canadians who travel without a passport now.

I don't know why she married a Merkun when there are plenty of eligible Canadian men.

It seems to be pretty common knowledge that a lot of them break the rules of international travel when it comes to getting married in a temple. I guess they figure God's on their side.
