What do you recommend?

PC or mac?

Also portable or desktop replacement?

If its a mac the new Apple Macbook rocks ( I got one three weeks
ago and the intel chip is great.

As far as PC, HP is really coming along with some great laptops.

You may want to avoid a Dell for now. Shocked

Mine is a 600M. Mad When I shut down I will see if it is one that I have to send back.

I so need to have my freaking battery now. School begins in a week. Crap!

Weird too, because the past two days I've gotten an error message saying it doesn't recognize my power source. It works fine, but I have to hit F1 to proceed at startup (well, it's never a new startup, just out of hibernation I guess).

Thanks for the tip, Gdawg!

Oh, and otherwise, I love my Dell.
You're welcome.

Just don't put the laptop where you put your iPod (though that would make for a fubby picture). Mr. Green

and that's why it's important that old people die off. j/k.

anyway, i never would thought i'd like a mac - but i've used my buddy's a few times, and i like it. mostly because he hasn't had any virus trouble and rarely has any system problems.

that and i could use it for more media purposes and i might get more use out of my computer that doesn't involved me talking to strangers on the interweb.

DO NOT buy a WInbook. Just trust me. Mine has been reconfigured for Larry (by me, and this is not the first time, although lending it to a friend who smoked and ate around it didn't help)...it had major keypad problems. I got it fixed the first time after it was just a month off of warranty; it took forever and cost me about $300!

The keypad is screwed up again, which is fine for Larry; he prefers an external keypad anyway and it works fine for him with that; it's been a BIG PITA.

I have a Toshiba that I really, really like. Their keypad set-up is a little different than a traditional keyboard, so it takes a little acclimation, but not much. Keith (scorch) is right about HP and also Compaq (same company).

Stay away from whatever E-Machines and Acer are making now. Just trust me.

I have a Powerbook G4. I've had it about 18 months.

It's never frozen, crashed or acted up in any way.

Go to apple.com and shop around. Macbooks start about 1100 and Pros are around 2K. It's certainly more pricey than a PC, but worth it, IMO.
