I was riding past a local elementary school last night and of course there are cars parallel parked everywhere because of soccer practice. I slowed down and was watching for doors opening and vehicles pulling out when Super Soccer Mom in her Sienna van pulls off the road and parks two deep IN THE MIDDLE OF THE BIKE PATH. Thankfully I had already reduced speed and was able to swing out into traffic to get around her. I did tap on her rear view mirror (none too gently) and you'd think I had put a gun to her head by the p*ssed off look on her face.
Should I just let stuff like this slide? I know it's going to happen. It just cheeses me off. Had I been travelling at speed I would have ended up all over her back window.

As much as I hate to say it, you might wanna let it slide. A ticked off cyclist is no match for a ticked off automobile driver.

For me, it would have depended on how heavy the traffic was. If she had made me pull over into heavy traffic I would have done what you did. If traffic was light, I would have let it slide.
Congrats on being able to knock on her mirror and not fall off your bike though.

Like PH said, it is a judgement call on how much risk she put you in.
I have scared a few drivers who have open doors in front of a group of us yelling "DOOR!"
