Don't show up for The HUFF this coming Saturday unless you are prepared for
snow covered trails...hidden roots... not that many hills... minor elevation
changes...rough footing...aid stations up to 3.5 miles apart...and the U.S.
Vice-Presidential Museum at the Quayle Center.

This was inspired by real-life events. Mark Godale has the record for
fastest winning HUFF time ever; he ran 3:26:27 in 1999. He also has the record for
the slowest men's HUFF winning time. Mark's mark was 5:04.27 set in 2000
under very snowy conditions.

This year's snow is nowhere near the 2000 level. Even so, Mark was very
traumatized by that snowy event. So traumatized that he has sought out December
running venues in the southern hemisphere where he can enjoy summertime. (Mark
was to compete yesterday at the World Masters' Association 100K World
Championship in Bariloche, Argentina).

Two-time HUFF winner Ann Heaslett has signed up for this year's event.
Living in Wisconsin is always great preparation for The HUFF.

246 folks have signed up for the individual 50K part of The HUFF. Online
registration is still open until the 15th at _www.HUFF50K.com_
(http://www.HUFF50K.com) . (Once at that page - click the online registration hypertext on
the top right-hand side of the page). You can look at confirmed entries by
clicking on the confirmation button near the top of the online registration page.

Mail-in registrations needed to be postmarked by this past Saturday. Those
names will be entered as they are received over the next few days.

Packet stuffing took place last night at the Joseph Decuis (Duh-quee)
restaurant in Roanoke, Indiana. Joseph Decuis will be providing 10 gallons of New
Orleans gumbo for the infamous soup line in the HUFF finisher's tent.

New Info for the State Park entrance fee - As last year's participants know
- the Indiana DNR began collecting automobile entrance fees at last year's
HUFF. We didn't have much time at all to prepare for that. That resulted in
long lines at the entrance of the Kil-So-Quah campground. This year we are
taking care of that several ways.

You will be able to buy a one-day entrance pass for $5 at the pasta dinner
on Friday night. We will also have a supply of 2006 Indiana State Park annual
passes available for Indiana runners at the pasta dinner. The 2006 annual
pass will be good for this one day in 2005. The passes are per vehicle. Due to
the limited parking at the campground - we always urge runners to try to
travel together to the campground.

Passes are also being made available to our regional runners at our Fort
Wayne running specialty store. We believe both steps will dramatically speed up
the entrance into the park on race morning.

As always, the Huntington Family YMCA will be allowing runners to take
post-race showers.

There's 463 people signed up for this race! How are all these cars going to fit at the campground? I want to have my car nearby, so I can change hats and shoes if I need to.
I'm taking all my running clothes with me. And 3 hats because I sweat and I can change them IF I can get to my car (or drop bags).
What's the forecast for Indiana this Saturday?
And when's Mitch going to email the details of the race out???
