Anyone ever had one? How would I know if I did? I have a pain in my lower back that feels like I must have seriously bruised myself, except I know I didn't. I just got this pain in the middle of the night. And what are the options to treat it? Thanks.

OK, for the other dumbasses out there who Google themselves into a panic, if you have or think you might have a kidney infection, you should get it checked out immediately as things can apparently go bad quickly.

However (pay attention), kidneys are in the middle area of one's back. Not the bottom.

Shelf, please punch me.

Does it hurt to pee? I had one years ago. Back pain was one of the last symptoms I experienced. Go to the Dr. pee in a cup. It's as easy as that.

I grew up struggling with chronic kidney infections. They hurt like a mofo, first of all. A burning ache just below your ribs in your back, usually just on one side. It feels like getting kicked in the kidney (if you've ever experienced this). Sometimes it's accompanied by a fever, but usually I didn't get one for quite some time - then I'd spike a very high one. Sometimes there would be burning urination, sometimes not. If you let it go, it progresses quickly to systemic infection (septicemia - which sucks and can kill you) - don't let that happen. Go see your doctor if you suspect a kidney infection!

Possibly a kidney stone too. my first one was too big to pass so i didn't get those severe pains, but i had a similiar feeling in the back.

time to get gross now, ya ready? any foul odor in your urine? is it hazy? is there blood in it? have you been running a temperture? if yes to the first two i'd suspect an infection. if no on the first two and yes on the second i'd suspect a stone. either way call to make an appt with a urologist.
