Posted: 09/19/05 - 23:50 Post subject: i need recommendations for head phones
i need new headphones for running. ive tried about 5 different kinds and they are all too big, too small, the cord is too long/too short, the buds are too big, they fall out when i sweat... the list goes on.
i nearly destroyed my iPod today when a sudden movement of my hand knocked it off of the tray on the treadmill.
ive seen some cordless ones but they are hella pricey and got bad reviews. anyone got any ideas for me?

I'm having the same issue with headphones as well. Just wanted to say though that I've seen many Ipods hit the deck of the mill and continue to work. They must be tougher than they look! I have a RIO Forge that can survive anything apparently.

I've heard that wireless headphones are pretty poor in quality unless you get bigger ones (more room for components and power supply).
One option is to get an FM transmitter for the iPod and wear small radio-equipped headphones. The FM transmitter costs a bit more, but it's really versitile. Most allow you to manually select the frquency to transmit on, then you set the tuner (in the headphones, the car, the home stereo, etc) to the same frequency.

I'm not a fan of headphones while running (or mills, for that matter) but I found the "old fashioned" type walkman headphones worked well. The over-the-head-small-round-foam-discs-covering-the-ear ones. Won't fall off, better low end, and use a twist tie on the cord if it's too long.

They can, but I'd have to force them and they hurt like nobody's business.

the old fashioned litl foam ones work good for me too. in fact, i use a hat to mush them down on my head and secure them in my ears...

i found these at best buy. they were $20 but they are the best that ive found.
the buds are small enough to fit in my ears, though they are kind of hard to get in. i found that wearing them upside down so they "hook" onto my ears keeps them from moving around or falling out. and the sound is good enough to drown out the crappy music the gym plays. the only complaint i have is the cord is kind of short so you better have a case for your mp3 player that doesnt pull your shorts down when you run.
