this will be my first big trip evah by myself.

we've done day trips down to grand forks to go toy shopping, but this is a grand scheme.

myself and my girlfriend have been talking about this for like 2 years, since the news broke, that Grand Forks will be hosting the 2005 World Junior Hockey Championships next christmas (13 months from today - to clarify the "2005" bit it goes over new years...) .

the pre-sale is on for the full event ticket packages, which is 21 games for 455 US. so that's not a bad price. but they've already sold 4000 of the 9000 packages Shocked .

so we gotta jump fast. we figure it'll cost us about $1500cdn.

it's gonna be for 11 days, and like 2 games a day!!

i'm so excited, i went by myself when they were here. my uncle bought a package but could only stay for a few games (he needed to buy early to secure seats) so he gave us the rest. and it's SO much fun.

there's going to be superbowl type festivities, with autograph sessions and all kinds of crazy stuff running the whole time we're down there.

AND it's the year the NHL players won't be playing due to the looming strike so team canada will actually have ALL of their best rookies, instead of dealing with 3 or 4 top guys having to play nhl games at the time (the lower franchises get the top picks in the draft, and they depend more on the young picks so they don't let them go play for the national team at christmas time. usually the top teams will if they don't need them for that time.) which means that it's gonna be nothing but the best of the best! WOW WOW WOW. it's a good year to go for the gold!

it'll basically be us wearing team canada jerseys, face paint, canada flags for capes, canada hats, and white pants with any form of maple leaf on 'em. whoopin' it up for the yanks Mr. Green

it's like march madness, there's always a cinderella team to love. and it is SO very intense. it's the best hockey, so fast too with the international rules... it's good times and i'm STOKED.

i only have to save 125$ a month to go... easy for me, now i just need to teach my g/f the fine art of "budgeting" Wink .

Oh...you've gotta do it Blue!
That sounds like great fun and once in a lifetime thing to do when you are still so young.

Will the package include the cost of your stay?

Awesome! Mr. Green

no Razz. and actually we're trying to host them again sometime this decade... but it'll be one of the only chances i get to have a road trip like this, especially to be in a hotel for a tournament... so i could go again, but it won't be quite like this. Smile

we're still planning out the costs of the hotel. it gaves us a few quotes, around 800US for 11 nights at some of the lower ones. but we're hoping to be closer to the arena so we can walk. we'll make some adjustments this week before we book.

oh, and we'll be bringing our own food. none of this eating out business. it's a good way to blow a budget.
