Posted: 09/08/05 - 15:55 Post subject: i have an interview tomorrow!!!! (UPDATE - had one!)
i landed an interview with a small software firm i applied at on saturday... looking for a marketing person to help develop/launch a new product - 18-30 years old, and looking for a career...
i'm so frieken stoked.
it's my first interview since i finished college...
position would start Oct. 1st
i'm hella stoked. HELL A STOKED!
****
update:
so i had a great interview... i was talking with the guy for an hour, we like the same things, it's a small office, they want to grow, he says they are all really excited to be there and treats them like family (he mentioned going to church)..
i nailed his questions for 'on the spot' - what would we do to setup a reseller network in the USA (good for an on the spot answer anyway)... and the "what did you learn as a whole from the marketing major" -- and apparently knocked it out of the park with the 'marketing is a philosophy that goes end to end in every department'...
the guy even likes lock, stock, two smoking barrels.
i scored major points for downloading the trial version of their software last night - and actually knowing a fair bit about the business... so that's cool.
anyway, he said after talking to me that i'm pretty much at the top of the pile... myself and another guy - so i'm putting in my references and i'll find out on tuesday.
i'm really quite excited...
oh, and the office for the "new hire" has a fish tank. booyah.
(i hope i get it - i got a $50 parking ticket while i was in the interview yapping with the dude)

Be sure to ask right off the bat if you can carry over any comp time from a previous job. You need to get that out in the open early in the interview.
Hey, Congrats!!! And good luck.

Comp time = unpaid overtime.. off-the-books vacation so to speak.
Say you work a 50-hr week and are paid for 40. The boss sez to take those extra 10 (really 15 though since it's at time-and-a-half) some other time as comp time and not have to ding your vacation balance.

Hey, save the questions for the interview!
Hint: Do not bring up the concept of transfering comp time.

i think i'll ask my dad tonight what he asks... he has his own software place and just hired a buncha punks like me (but with computer skills).
i know things like
"where do you see yourself in 5 years"
"what kind of place do you want to work for"
"what are your salary expectations" (my dad says "they say i should be starting around ____" is a good way of mentioning what you want, without it sounding like you came up with the number)
and stuff like that.
any other things you guys can think of? i need to prep.

Do they still ask the "what is your greatest strength and weakness" question? Answers are self starting team player (strength), and something that leads them to believe you have workaholic tendencies (weakness).
