would you buy a leather couch without approval?
he said go buy what you want (I think he meant bedding for our cabin)
I usually consult when spending over a few hundred.

Ours is somewhere between 50 and a hundred. Up to discretion really..but anything over 100 definitely

Probaly the cut off would be 200-300 dollars. Of course that doesn't seem to apply to firearms though.

for a couch I would likely be consulted. For stuff like clothes or stuff for kids, just usually saying I am getting this...and it is no problem.
