I've been running inside all winter because I'm a wuss. Although I'd be outside if I was signed up for a race w/o a problem. Anything below 35-40 and my damned asthma gives me fits.

I won't run outside if it gets above 95°F. The heat just gets too stifling and the pace slows to a crawl. I don't see how that's helping me any.

sorry, but running in the cold rain is the pits. 25 and dry is better than 40 and raining. cold rain bites. i'd pass if it's raining.
warm rain is another story. |
agree whole-heartedly....
my worst racing experience ever was running a half-marathon in 40 degree weather and pouring rain...it was not fun....i was in what amounted just about the best running shape of my life but had a lousy race...all my energy and competitive fire where spent just trying to fight the elements, i had nothing left to fight the course and finished 7-8 minutes of the time i'd hoped for...the experience was bad enough that I told myself that next i'd just eat the entry fee rather run in similar elements for a race this long...
also remember that it is all what your body gets used too...ask some of us yanks how well we'd fare running in Houston in July or August....

I'll run in the cold but not snow and ice (what's the point?).
I'll continued to run if it starts to rain, but won't start out if it's already raining.

Bad weather is a great motivator to run fast and get it over with. I'll put money down that you'll PR!!!

40s and rain......loving it!!!!!! (for shorter distances). Marathons.....I prefer in the 50s. I am very wimpy for marathon temps. Below 50 and I have problems and above 65 I do also. 5ks and 10ks---cold is good!!!!

Alright, Alright, I'm a WUSS! I didn't get too many takers on my 'how hot is too hot?' though
But just to clarify, there wouldn't be a question about the temp (well, unless it was under 30, my asthma just can't take it) if there wasn't a (now) 60% chance for morning rain. Running in the cooler temps is great, 45 is probably my ideal temp. But, the idea of being cold AND wet really doesn't sound pleasant. And to define Houston rain, think monsoon. We typically get over an inch each time it rains, so it will most likely be a soaker.
My friend who is doing it with me is convinced we can do it (I think garbage bags were part of her scheme) so I think I'm doing it...I'm not registered yet so there is always the pre-start bail out option

Agreed the rain in TX is different.....there isn't such a thing as a warm rain. Although, I did run my best run in a pretty good rain years ago. I ran 14 miles at a pace that is faster than my current 13.1 PR. (could have been the fear factor). I breathe well while it's raining, and it's a bad thing if it stops before I'm done.

Excuse me, please? I'm thinking that when it stops, you are done! Now, we're talking about your breathing, right?

Damn, you took my joke.
it depends on the importance of the race for me. Major race. i'd do it, rain, cold, hight winds and a forenst fire on both sides. ( yes a mental case)
a race just for general sake. bag it roll over under the covers and think about the fools when you wake up that ran in that stuff.
