Posted: 02/19/03 - 18:34 Post subject: hey anyone with hymn and/or movie knowledge
so...I was thinking of memorable movie songs and thought of that hymn at the end of "Places in the Heart", because when I hear it in church I usually associate it with that oh so good movie. However, I cannot for the life of me come up with what it is and its about to kill me. I figured Keltic the resident music teacher/church musician is probably most likely equipped with this answer....Spare me the $5 blockbuster rental fee and lemme know what it is....does anyone know??? please?
edited after poky called me out...dude, I was skiing that day! I missed that post!!

It's been a long time since I've seen that movie, but for some reason the hymn Blessed Assurance sticks in my head as the song that runs throughout that movie.
I went out to see if I could get some info on it, and found that it is a 1984 movie. I also found some info at a site that ministers use to find relevant video clips that help illustrate points in their sermons. Most interesting is the idea of Baptism in that film: the Tornado as wind and water and bringing about change in one of the characters, and also the theme of community in the final scene (Church scene where all the characters dead/alive are reconciled) can be viewed as a Communion/Eucharistic service. Makes me want to go back and watch it now for all those themes!
