All this talk about marriage must be boring you, so for you I turn the tables.
What do you love most about being single, and what, if anything, would you change? Have you always been single?

What do I love most about being single? That I can be a little selfish. With my time, with what I want to do, I don't have to consider what anyone else would want to do, I don't have to compromise. Its kind of nice!

!!! I haven't been "single" as in completely single, not dating anyone seriously, engaged, married, etc....since I was 19, until recently. There's someone in the picture but it's very....I don't want to say casual because that sounds cheesy, but.....not the kind of thing where I have to report in every night or get whined at because I'm going out to dinner with the girls instead of seeing him, yada yada.....all my past relationships were exclusive, you-and-me-seeing-no-one-else things and there was very little downtime between the one ending and the next one starting, it wasn't planned but it just sorta always happened that way. Most of them ended up being "converted friends" so to speak. Just hanging out buddies that turned into something else.
I was a long termer, as opposed to a serial dater, so I've had several long relationships, including two living together ones, and I'm really kinda liking life the way it is now. Eventually I'll settle down because I relly do like the whole couply thing but I think my standards are a lot higher when I'm not looking.

Last night, a group of my friends and I went out to a bar. One of my friends, a girl, got fairly drunk. My sober friends and myself made sure that she and the other person that was drunk got home safely. After she got home, it turns out she called her boyfriend who promptly got upset. Not exactly to sure why he got upset. She was out with friends that were looking out for her. We wouldn't even let her walk her bicycle to my truck.
As for being single, I'm glad I can go out and not worry about what my girlfrield says. I'm also able to change my schedules at a moment's whim and not worry about messing up plans.
However, I have not had a steady relationship (read ANY close relationship) in almost 4 years. There are many times I wish I was in a relationship that was long term and had a strong possibility of marrige (can I say that in this thread?). I wish I was with a girl that would go on short motorcycle trips, run, camp, etc. with. I've just been focusing on school too much to develop a close relationship with anybody.
So I guess the reason I'm single is not due to a desire to remain single, but more of a desire to focus my time on my school work.

As a college student, I agree with Kobyj on that one about schoolwork. Also my parents have also stressed that particular point. I don't have a girlfriend as of yet but I'm sure an intimate/close relationship can take up alot of time and committment not to mention other activities such studies, leisure time, etc.. There are advantages of being single of course: more free time, less responsibilities (such as children), being more flexible with your time.
