I have a student who is blind, and I am finding it increasingly difficult to grade him. It's not hard to include him in the classroom activities, I'm just having trouble finding ways to test him. I don't have access to braille music, so i can't have the written tests translated into braille for him. any ideas on how I can include him in testing with the rest of the class? It's really hard to schedule separate testing times for him.

Verbal exams, but you'd have to make special test time for him. If you really get stuck, I can e-mail my m-i-l, she works with the blind a lot.

it really looks like I'm gonna have to do that. it increases my work load and my schedule is already as full as it can be. I need to talk to his vision teacher, but she and I are only in the building together once a week.

our tests are on CD, so that isn't quite the problem. the questions that are on the test are questions that determine if students recognize a visual representation of the rhythms or notes that they hear. next year the curriculum includes more "conceptual" questions, and I can do those verbally. But this year, it really seems to be centered on the visual/aural connection, and he lacks the visual. I may have to come up with a way to do the notation with glue and sand/glitter, etc so he can feel the shapes of the notes and rhythms.

Don't know what the solution is, Steve, but I gotta tell you that I'm very impressed with how dedicated you are.
