Well, now that I have turned 33, yes it's true, as immature as I act I am 33 years old.

I am considering some "resolutions" not unlike New Year's resolutions to help me stay "on track" through out the summer. However, I keep have trouble writing them, so here is a list, and the problems I have with them in italics.

1. No beer on weekdays.
NBA playoffs is very hard on this rule.

2. Eat Healthier
I try, I really do, but I am very lazy when it comes to cooking, and I don't like many fruits and vegetables. I'm weird, I know.

3. Get to bed early (to make getting up early easier)
the NBA playoffs are tough again

4. Read more, TV less
No real excuse for this, just lazy I guess

5. Less coffee
I try, I really do, but I drink way too much of this.

So there you have it, the official "I am lazy" laundry list. I know that if I can really show a great deal of tough self discipline over the next two years, that I can have a shot at a BQ on my 35th birthday. But, if I don't I probably won't make it.

They all seem doable coach. Try tackling the easiest thing first.

Coach, buddy, don't be so hard on yourself! The other four? You may have something but beer??? Save the barley and hops! Wink
Just kidding, thats actually one I'm trying to do to. I don't drink much on week days but when I do it tends to throw the rest of the week off. A little discipline in that area could definitely help many other areas for me. Of course, we're in agreement that weekends start on Thursday, right? Wink

cheers of course!

I was thinking about planning out some sort of reward system, where if I can get up and run X number of days, than I get treat Y.

Nothing too complicated mind you, just some simple rules that motivate me to run more. And better. And take better care of myself.

Coach, in the fruit/vegetable department the best thing I ever did was sign up for a produce delivery service. Every week they come and dump a big box of fresh stuff at your door and you feel obligated to eat it before the next box comes. I eat a minimum of 6 fruits/veggies a day now, where a year ago it was maybe one or two.

A suggestion or two if I may. Your goals, while quite admirable, are also very vague. Try writing them quantitatively so that you can actually evaluate them over time.

Instead of saying "less of this" or "more of this", give yourself a number that you can evaluate. Did I reach this goal? Yes or no? And also give yourself a time frame in which to complete the goal.

1. No beer on weekdays.

Instead of cutting it out altogether (since you're really not), give yourself a limit on how many beers you'll have during the week. On nights where there is no NBA, no beer. On nights of games, limit it to one or two beers.

2. Eat Healthier

Change this to exactly what it is you want to be eating. And again, quantify it. For example, eat 2 servings of vegetables at least 3 times per week, and 1 serving of fruits at least 4 days a week.

Give yourself a specific time in which you plan to get to bed. Then plan your evening so that you'll get to bed at that specific time.

4. Read more, TV less

Change it to 1 hour of TV a night and 2 hours of reading a night.

5. Less coffee

Change this one to one less cup of coffee than you're drinking right now for the next two weeks. Then cut it down by one cup for the following two weeks, and so on.

Giving yourself a goal that you can actually evaluate will make that goal much more achievable in the long run. Otherwise, you'll be trying to accomplish something that's just too "big" and vague and it won't happen and you'll get frustrated.

I have mentioned this to mrs. coach as well. Not specifically about the playoffs, but about how if we lived closer together...dunno it wouldn't be pretty, I can tell you that.

Also, to flarunner!

You rock so much I can barely contain myself. Thanks for the advice. It is very good advice, and I am glad to have it.

Thanks alot.

Good Luck Coach! Some of those resolutions are kind of like some of my, although I am 35 already and I am shooting for a BQ by the time I am 37.
