I just got a harassing phone call from a "restricted number" so I call verizon wireless to find out how to deal with it.

nada, nothing, zip, zilch, rien, zero Neutral

call the police if it continues or escalates; they can subpoena records. change my cell number. neither seems appropriate at this time.

and yes, it is because of who I am

I just have no idea who it is, or how they got my number. and it was definitely kids......I'm thinking maybe even some of my students.

I hate it when something like this happens and you can't find any normal way of dealing with the issue.

I had something happen to me this week where similar non-action could be taken:

I mailed some rent checks (for my new business) on 7/26 that are late if they don't arrive by 8/5. Well, even today the checks have not arrived at the apartment complex. So now I have to pay over $400 in late fees and stop payment fees for the checks I had already written. What can I do about it? Nothing. And it isn't worth it to sue the USPS!

Another thing that bugs me is recieving faxes from unwanted spammers. I have contacted the FCC about this and even they can't do anything about it.

I wish people would just do their stinkin jobs, grow up, etc. so I didn't have to deal with other people's stupidity!

On a personal note - sorry you are having to deal with this crap! Sad

if you complete a police statement, the pd can get the phone records. It may not be include the number on the call detail. If that number is there on the call detail it can be followed up. Wireless providers have a little less data on callers than wired lines such as home phone .

Just so you know.

I thought, by law, that the delivered date was what was stamped on the envelope. In that case, as long as the envelopes were stamped before the due date, you shouldn't have to pay late fees. For $400, it might be worth asking a lawyer.

Wow....I actually remembered something from my law classes....

Keltic,

I'm so sorry.

Just proves that I'd pick you over most anyone else any day of the week. Keep your chin up and know that you are good people.

Kids can be so cruel.

I was hoping *57 would work (call trace, info sent to an Unlawful Call Center)

I also found out that these kids called the number that is listed in the phone book and got my cell number from the stbx, who said it sounded like a young girl. Stbx didn't hesitate in giving the number. She has caller ID, but the number came up as "Blocked" but the call was received about 1 minute before I got the call on my cell.

some things that have occurred to me:

if I get another call, I can "click" one of the buttons and say "Operator, this is the call I would like traced."
I could also blow a police whistle into the phone Very Happy
I could begin reciting the Lord's Prayer
Since these are kids, and most likely my students, they prolly don't realize that this phone call will show up on the phone bill as a toll call. I'm guessing the parents will want to know why someone called a toll number so late at night. Perhaps they'll dial the number and try to find out who it is, and then.......
