So my neighbor (who I call the Uni-bomber cause he looks like that dude) gets a dog.

Medium size dog that barks alot.

Now I don't mind the noise as much when I'm at work.

But I do at home.

Then there are the times when I'm out doing my run, at 3 Am and it comes to the door and barks some more.

Oh did I mention it smells now.

Also.

The Uni-bomber has this annoying habit of slamming
his door when he leaves his place.

Decided I had enough, now it was time to play fire with fire.

So last week this item came in the mail

The Acme Silent Dog Whistle

Decide to give it a try at 2:30 AM since I was up getting ready for my 4 AM run of 10 miles.

Do you know it really works!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The freaking dog was going nuts for a good 5 minutes.

You could hear it running all over the place, bumping into things, and lots of shouting from the Uni-bomber to get it to settle down.

However.

It seems the other dogs were doing the same thing on my floor and floors above me as well.

So later that Sat the Uni-bomber come by and to say he was sorry for the way his dog was acting, since his little princess is really a good dog.

You damm right I did it again (blew the whistle) all weekend at all hours of the night (well I was up getting ready to run).

Now I like dogs but had it up to here Evil or Very Mad with my neighbor, and felt something needed to be done.

I like when people take things like this in their own hands. Very good M99, I like your idea, I may have to recommend it to folks.

Does it just make the dogs yap and go crazy? I had a dog come running straight at me yesterday while the owner was yelling, "He won't bite, he won't bite."

That whistle sounds like an excellent defense.

The whistle has an adjustable slide handle to give various degrees of sound to animals (dogs, cats) and it has a different effect depending on the animal.

Got a bit nervous about the way the dog was acting, and a little sorry that his master is a lazy, sloopy bas*** who forced me to do something like this.

I'm sure there will be a memo outside my door to all tennants about pets and late night noise. Smile

Trying to figure out a way to loop the sound and plug it into my stereo.

Won't work. Your stereo speakers top out at 20,000 Hz and I'm sure the dog whistle is at a higher frequency than that.

ON second thought..... I went to their site.

Many animals react differently to different whistles, each has different hearing abilities, but most animals hear quite clearly frequencies that defeat the human ear. Invented by Acme in 1935, the Acme Silent Dog Whistle is the perfect dog training whistle for Town or Country, close or distance work. Adjustable frequency range from 5400 Hz. to 12,800 Hz. Tuned to your dog's hearing.Used for training dolphins and killer whales at Sea World it is also famous for its effects on cats, horses, mice and even bats! Brass Whistle with nickel plated (silver) finish.

Made in England.

According to the manufacturer, this whistle is effective up to 2 miles depending upon wind, weather, terrain etc.

M99 may be getting the dude of the day award for this contraption. I really like dudes who deal with their own problems effectively. This is such a cool way to handle this that I must applaud you.

Genie I do miss the cat, but we still keep in touch.
I got a postcard for x-mas with her and the cat on the front.

For those out of the loop a little back story.

I once owned a cat that I got from the shelter back in 99 that was signed around the ears and had some short fur.

The cat was survived a house fire.

Called it scorch and hence my personna in Cool Running is a tribute to the cat.

Well I had a neighbor that had a cat, we got along real well and her cat and my cat got along with each other.

Well her cat died almose a year later, and she was bummed about it but did not heve the heart to get another one after having this cat for years.

So I offer her my cat, took some heat over at the CR boards caused I posted it and some felt I was willing to throw away all that bonding at a whim.

Well months later she finally took one her daughter's suggestion to move with her family to Calif. And now scorch can roam and both are happy.

Keep thinking about getting a cat, but seeing pictures of my former cat makes me feel good and know that both are happy.

Genie as far as it hurting them (pets) I guess its like scratching across a chalk board.

Hence my flip flop at the end of my comments where you either see the M or S99
