We blend a lot, but surely they make blenders that will withstand our blending tendencies? (as much as 4x day). The last one is only a couple of months old, and the base around the blades cracked.

I've seen that at Buffett tailgates--so funny. It sounds like a chain saw...

Cook's Illustrated reviews blenders and here's what they say to look for:

Quote:
Conclusions
Overall, we found electronic touch-pad controls to be a nuisance, a broad range of speeds to be unnecessary, and newfangled, wide-bodied, straight-sided jars to offer no advantage over traditional jars with angled sides. Unfortunately though, even all the right design features don't guarantee first-rate performance. None of our blenders excelled in every single test. Chopping ice evenly and easily, which any blender should be able to do, stymied our two top choices, the Oster and the Hamilton Beach. Otherwise, both models were reasonably priced at around $40 and sailed through all the other tests with aplomb. Only the Krups and the Cuisinart did a great job crushing ice, but otherwise they turned in spotty performances. The losers of the bunch were the Sunbeam and, to our surprise, the costly, handsome KitchenAid. Looks like the harvest gold wonder in my kitchen at home stays on daiquiri duty again this summer.

This looks like a great appliance, but I wouldn't be able to get past the name of it (Tailgator). Therefore, I'd probably never have one in my house or possession.

Oh I love blenders but burned up quite a few before I got a decent one though. Between margaritas and protein shakes I'm pretty hard on them. Mr. Green My current blender is an Osterizer and I've had it 2-3 years I think. It's great but has been smelling a bit hot lately, prolly gonna die soon I spoze. I'm gonna get a KA this weekend. Kohl's has a sale and I'm getting a KA that sells for $100 for about $65 after a $20 rebate and 20% off discount. I have found that you get what you pay for though. I've burned up $20 blenders in 1 weekend. I'll spend $50 minimum, on sale for one now.

I've also burned up several blenders belonging to others. Embarassed Well hey, they asked me to make margaritas.
