you'd think after 9 years of kids in school, i could come up with something original. NOT.

i guess i'll go with the Barnes and Noble gift certificate unless someone comes up with a better idea.

do you do this??? my daughter is in 3rd grade and i know the teachers get swamped with candy, candles, lotions and goo, and if i don't send one, then my daughter feels like the class Scrooge when everyone else brings their beautifully wrapped gifties in.

any ideas dunno

DO NOT BUY A MUG THAT SAYS "TEACHER" ON IT

And in my opinion, don't buy anything that says teacher on it. I have gotten a few nice things like some pretty christmas decorations, or even some fudge. Mostly I've gotten things that I just don't need/don't care for. I like your Barnes & Noble idea, can you add a small gift from there so your daughter feels like she is actually giving a gift? (bookmarks, tiny gift books, journals, ya know, up near the front of the store)

Hmm my kids have never once asked to give a teacher a gift. Would an exquisitely wrapped 12 pack of Rolling Rock be acceptable?

Okay, first, I must preface this with my mom cooks so well she makes Martha Stewart jealous.

We always brought her homemade sourdough english muffins to our teachers. I think they went over well based on the requests for sourdough starters and english muffin recipes. And while I realize you may not have any 70 year old sourdough on hand or the skills of Julia Child (I certainly don't!), I think any homemade baked goods would be nice as well as cheap, no?

How are you with making things? You can make some fudge or cookies. I have a great toffee recipe (very easy and tasty you can PM me for the recipe if you want it.) put it in a nice jar with a wired edge ribbon and call it a day.
Ornaments are always nice.
Gift certificate to Starbucks if the teacher is a coffee nut.

Here is one my wife got last year and absolutely loved it. One of her kids got her one of those buckets of popcorn from blockbuster (like the ones at the movie theatre) and filled it with a blockbuster gift certificate, goobers, m&m's, gummi bears. So my wife, kids and I all had a nice movie night at home, complete with all the theatre fixin's.

Also a few years ago all the kids parents got together and asked her something she really wanted, and then they all pitched in a got her one nice gift. Believe me through the years she has gotten some real cheesy gifts.

Yes and like Keltic says "no teacher mugs"
