The kids have helped me make batches of homemade candy in the past and pack in pretty tins...with 3 kids having at least 2 teachers each, plus their band directors(one for each grade!)plus religious ed. teachers and piano teacher, it can get expensive.
Last year we made mixes in a jar...you layer ingrediants for cookies or soup in a 2 quart canning jar....all the recipeint has to add is the liquid stuff...I typed the recipes on the computer in a pretty fonte. Very nice, pretty inexpensive, and it looks nice sitting on the kitchen counter until they can use it.

My favorites are the pictures and the crafts they made me. I saved them all, not kidding.
My absolute favorite gift: a marble. The student wrapped it in construction paper and all of the kids were sooo excited about this gift. They gathered around me and said: ohhh, you're going to LOOOVE this. Kids must really like marbles. Anyway, it's on the kitchen window sill.
Even adults like to give their teachers gifts. I taught adult esl and they gave me little trinkets from their country, but usually they'd like to throw a party...more fun than class, lol.
So, let your kid give a gift. Making a gift is very thoughtful. Did you know that teachers receive a discount from bookstores? That idea is still very nice.
Good luck,
Shelly

I have 3 festiv christmas coffee mugs that sit in the back of my cupboard at home. If I had never recieved them, what would be in the back of my cupboard?
Seriously, the treats are nice. The best gift I recieved from a student was a North Carolina Tar Heels visor. I'm pretty easy though, all the kids know my favorite teams.
Most personal things are good. I absolutely love that blockbuster video idea.

My middle daughter has a first-year teacher (at least first year full-time) so we bought a set of teacher's stamps ("good job", #1, etc.) to give to her.
The other two, we haven't decided but I really like the movie or video idea. I'll suggest it to them. Love the marble story. In past years they have picked out stickers or bought books for their personal library from the RIF book fair that that PTA hosts.
Also, last year my kids bought those paper maiche (sp?) boxes at the craft store and painted them. They filled them with trinkets of their choice and wrapped themselves too. The kids were very proud of those gifts.
