And does you God allow have compassion for non-Christians? |
I would assume all of his creation includes the "heathens", no?

especially for non-Christians. |
I should have been more specific - does God have compassion enough for non-Christians to allow them into Heaven?

I think this thread is going to make my head explode!
Hey Ph and akern, is there room for one more? I'm a great back seat driver!

This will be the never-ending debate.
I have a real problem with repentance. So you're saying that a serial murdering psychopath has a place in heaven, if he/she repents, accepts Jesus Christ as his/her saviour before their own death? So I can be as bad as I wanna be, as long as I repent? |
Yeah that is correct. You just do not know when your time will be. You know if Cheeks puts one drop too many in that experiment

According the the book of Genesis, sin was introduced by our own free will. Thus as humans we are born into sin.
All sins are equal, I do not think or believe that worse sinners are punished worse. If a human does not repent of their sins and asks a gracious God for mercy, mercy will not be granted. Pride in it of itself is a sin and keeps a lot of people out of heaven.
I truly believe Hell is the complete absence of God.
The Bible is pretty clear on Heaven and Hell. Believe in Jesus, confess your sins and that Jesus died to cover those sins and your seat is reserved. That is pretty non demoninational if I say so.
Man is the one who screwed up churches, thus all of the different faiths and sects of religion.
I know I will get some grief but I am will to state my life on it. So much that I would be willing to die if having to choose against it.

Pretty non denominational as far as Christianity goes maybe, but there are other religions on this earth.
I do agree with you about Man screwing up churchs/religion though. Far too many wars have been started in the name of God.

which is one of the reasons we are having such a hard time with this thread. most of the "what about" questions stem from things that humans have layered on top of what God has done. One of the reasons I am in the denomination that I'm in is because they have a simple doctrine (officially "no doctrine" but that's not really possible, is it?) and all that is required for membership in our church (any Disciples of Christ church) is a confession of faith. It is the question that Jesus asked of Peter: Who do you say that I am? Answering that question with a head-knowledge and a heart-knowledge takes care of everything else. it doesn't need to be emotional, it doesn't need to be wailing and chest-beating penitance, it's a very simple recognition of the work that has been done on our behalf.
I have now done more "witnessing" online than I've ever done. Like Joe, I've put my beliefs out there and feel the need to walk away now. I really have appreciated the openness of this thread, the willingness to discuss and question, and seek some answers. When it comes down to it, there are questions in this thread that we will never answer satisfactorily, and I don't know that they need to be answered in order to have a vibrant faith. If we believe in a God, then there's no need to put limits on that God. God is Big, imagine that, then realize that you've already limited God's power because God is bigger than we can imagine.

Wow. A simple statement (that last one that I was too lazy to quote) but very profound. You're right, and I think Go was trying to get at that also....there really are more things in Heaven and Earth, Horatio.....
I just want to say how proud I am of everyone for keeping this a civil discussion aimed more at learning and questioning than attacking and accusing. This group ROCKS!!!
